Expect more 96kHz content on Blu-ray

Meridian, the company behind the current encoding for Dolby TrueHD, have created a new system, allowing upsampling of 48kHz material to 96kHz. This is different from the current upsampling available in many home theatre systems because it is done before the Blu-ray is created. Since the conversion doesn't need to happen in real-time, the engineers can spend much longer and apply much more dramatic processing to wring every bit of quality out of the material.
Dolby says the effect can be quite pronounced or quite subtle, depending on the material.
